The staff of the Montreal General Hospital — our hospital — care about their patients’ health. I will never forget the nurses who took turns tending to me and the surgeons who did everything in their power to make sure that my new condition would not prevent me from playing the sports that I love.

Following the accident, every moment and every move at the hospital was decisive. I was extremely lucky to recover with no serious permanent side effects. I know that not everyone is as lucky.

rTMS helped to speed up my recovery. Now I am so happy that my life has returned to normal and that I can be an active member of the community! I am still in school and, on top of that, I have an interesting new job. Being able to accomplish all of that is priceless.

Was I scared of dying? No, but I was scared of leaving my family. I could never thank them enough for being there.

At the end of the day, I’m not sure whether it’s me or the hospital that gets the most from my volunteer work. It’s great exercise for my mind, it makes me walk and the employees I work with are so nice to me!

I was a bubbly young woman, full of ambition and dreams. I was a university student and I worked in a bank. I had lots of projects, and no idea that it could all stop in a split second.

It’s hard to verbalize how painful it was to experience these losses repeatedly. We’re aware that there are bigger tragedies in the world—no one dies because they can’t have children. But for the two of us, who greatly wished to start a family, it was difficult.

This kind of accident never leaves you. On a daily basis, you always think of what you’ve been through. The hospital staff gives you the world – that’s their job but yet they do it with such dedication – and as patients you always remember them.

Dr. Genest’s research project allowed me to give birth to a little miracle. I could not be more thankful for the hospital and the people who made this dream possible.

Without the timely care that I received from the Dr. David S. Mulder Trauma Centre’s team, I don’t know if I would still be here today. If I had gone anywhere else, who knows what the outcome may have been.
