IT Specialist


The Montreal General Hospital Foundation is currently looking for a dynamic and professional IT Specialist. Reporting to the IT Manager, the incumbent will mainly be responsible for administering Office 365 and SharePoint, providing end-user support and training, preparing IT documentation and contributing to various IT improvement projects.

In collaboration with the MUHC IT department and other third parties, the IT specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues; installing and configuring new systems and devices; as well as maintaining and updating existing systems and applications.

Finally, the incumbent will be collaborating with the IT Manager to ensure operational security, maintenance, cyber security awareness and governance.

Key Responsibilities

Support services and internal training

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, network, and peripherals.
  • Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot hardware devices such as laptops, printers, video conference equipment, etc.
  • Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot software applications such as antivirus software, Office suite, browsers, etc.
  • Identify IT training needs for users.
  • Provide training and guidance to users on various IT tools and resources.
  • Participate in optimizing the use of our current tools, including Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, our donor management software, and Financial Edge, our financial management system.

IT documentation

  • Document IT procedures, policies, and best practices.

IT system and reporting

  • Administer Office 365 and SharePoint, including creating and managing users, groups, permissions, policies, etc.
  • Maintain security by monitoring the system for potential vulnerabilities, identifying risks, and taking action to mitigate them.
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining some Business intelligence and Power BI solutions for data analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare various ad hoc analysis requests.

Education and experience

  • College diploma in IT or equivalent training.
  • Demonstrate at least 3 years of working experience as an IT Specialist or a similar role.
  • Experience with IT support for software issues, cloud-based applications and hardware issues.
  • Experience in preparing complete and easy-to-follow documentation independently.
  • Hands-on experience with Office 365 and SharePoint administration.
  • Experience with Business intelligence and Power BI tools is an asset.

Professional skills and abilities

  • Excellent customer service and support skills.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously and work independently.
  • This position requires daily communication in French. It also requires working with external providers, providing internal support and preparing documentation for software that is not available in French. Therefore, a good understanding and ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in French and English is required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to prepare and provide training to ease learning and skills development is an asset.
  • Accounting knowledge or experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud solutions is an asset.

Main terms of employment 

  • Permanent, full-time position, 35hours/week, Monday to Friday
  • Possibility of working in hybrid mode after the training period
