$480,000 to Support Oncology Care and Research
On June 21, 2021, the Montreal General Hospital Foundation and the Cedars Cancer Foundation partnered to celebrate the 42nd Annual Cedars Golf Classic. The event held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club was a great success, selling out weeks in advance and raising $480,000 to support cancer patients and their medical teams.
Fight Against Cancer Never Stops
“Lung, esophagus and stomach cancers generally have a poor prognosis, with five-year survival rates between 15% and 20%” explains Dr. Lorenzo Ferri, Director of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and the Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancer Program at the MUHC. “However, surgeons at the Montreal General Hospital have contributed directly to many of the remarkable advances in the treatment of these cancers in the past decade, and very promising avenues are being researched as we speak, such as Organ on a chip, which we are very excited about.”
Thanks to the medical teams of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), working both at the MGH and at the Cedars Cancer Centre, more people survive cancer, manage treatment better and receive the comprehensive support they need.
Today’s best-in-class care, top-of-the-line education and life-changing research come at a cost. The Government of Québec funds part of this cost, as do other granting agencies. However, it is the community, rich with individual citizens, companies and other foundations, that empowers the extras, the innovations that will become tomorrow’s best-in-class care, top-of-the-line education and life-changing research.
Combining Forces to Support a Great Cause
The Montreal General Hospital Foundation and the Cedars Cancer Foundation are proud to be extending their reach as two foundations with common goals: to multiply the funding to the Cedars Cancer Centre and Montreal General Hospital’s talented healthcare professionals so that they in turn can fulfil their mission.
Both Foundations would like to thank the Royal Montreal Golf Club, our gracious host, our committee members and volunteers, our advertisers and sponsors as well as all the participants. You have all contributed immeasurably to more than a successful signature event. Rather, you have been instrumental in supporting world-class cancer care, research and education. A special thank you to our co-chairs: Kim Anderson, Andrew Carter, Dominic Costantini, Paul Sawaya and Demo Trifonopoulos.
